advocacy, youth development, and parental support, in the Historic Hoskins and Thomasboro Communities.
Lowe’s Hometowns has awarded grants to two Black-led nonprofits in Charlotte, A Brighter Day Outreach and A Better World, to support their work in the community, including building a food pantry and renovating a computer lab.
A Hoskins Community native, founded A Brighter Day Outreach in February 2021 via a partnership with the City of Charlotte Northwest Community Engagement resources. She established A Brighter Day Ministries non-profit organization serving the children of the Hoskins community for more than 16 years.
A graduate of North Carolina Central University, Beverly has utilized her degree in Business Administration to be an advocate for the overall Historic Hoskins Community drawing visibility and resources for the betterment of all HHCG residents.
Kate Dyksterhouse joined A Brighter Day Outreach in 2021. She has fulfilled many roles such as Data Lead, Grant Writer, and Break Every Chain coordinator. She brings experience as a non profit CRM implementation consultant and project manager for enterprise-level clients.
Her favorite part of working with A Brighter Day Outreach are the lasting friendships she has made with residents, non-profit partners, and Brighter Day leadership.
Aiko Mesias brings exceptional organizational skills and a passion for community service to her role as Executive Assistant at A Brighter Day Outreach.
Joining the organization in February 2024, Aiko is a graduate of Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English, providing her with a solid foundation in communication and education. With a strong background in administrative support, she ensures the smooth operation of the organization's initiatives.
Her meticulous attention to detail and proactive approach makes her an invaluable asset to the team, helping to drive forward the outreach programs and scholarship opportunities that make a tangible difference in the lives of those they serve.
Kayla Journet, born in New York City, brings a wealth of experience in early childhood development and leadership in summer programs for young children. Passionate about the Performing Arts, Kayla uses theatre, music, and dance as tools for connection and creativity inside and outside the classroom.
She believes the arts offer children a powerful way to express themselves and build confidence. Kayla is excited to be part of the Break Every Chain program and looks forward to incorporating fun and impactful learning experiences throughout the program.
