Our President

BEVERLY DAVIS

Beverly Knox Davis is a dedicated community leader, advocate, and servant of the Historic Hoskins community in Charlotte, North Carolina. She’s served in the Historic Hoskins Community for nearly 19 years. As a key leader with A Brighter Day Outreach, Beverly works to uplift individuals and families through programs that promote community development, youth empowerment, and neighborhood restoration.

Beverly’s commitment to service is deeply personal. 


She now serves at A Brighter Day Community HUB, located in the Historic Hoskins community—the same place where she once received youth Bible lessons, etiquette training, and nourishing meals as a child. Returning as a leader, she has come full circle, using her lived experiences to guide and mentor others while helping rebuild the village that raised her.

In addition to her work with A Brighter Day Outreach, Beverly is actively involved with the Historic Hoskins Coalition Group, where she collaborates with residents, leaders, and partners to preserve the community’s legacy while advocating for equitable resources, opportunities, and sustainable development. Through this coalition, she helps amplify the voices of long-time residents and works to ensure that the history and culture of Historic Hoskins remain respected and protected.


Beverly Knox Davis is known for her passion for service, her authentic connection to the community, and her commitment to creating pathways for future generations. Her leadership reflects a powerful belief that when communities invest in their people, transformation is possible.

Kate Dyksterhouse (Interim) Vice-President

Kate serves as the Interim Vice-President and CRM Manager for A Brighter Day Outreach, where she plays a key role in supporting the organization’s leadership, operations, and donor engagement systems.


In her role, Kate oversees the organization’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system, ensuring accurate data management, donor tracking, and effective communication with supporters and partners. 

Her work helps strengthen relationships with the community while supporting the organization’s fundraising and outreach efforts.


As Interim Vice-President, Kate also assists in guiding organizational initiatives, coordinating internal processes, and supporting strategic planning that advances A Brighter Day Outreach's mission.

Shayla Hammonds- event/program director

With over five years of experience in IT and business operations, Shayla has developed advanced skills in DNS and DHCP management, network administration, cybersecurity, and infrastructure optimization. In her role with Brightboy Tech, she has provided Tier 2 and Tier 3 technical support, resolved complex system issues, and contributed to strategic growth and disaster recovery planning. Her ability to troubleshoot intricate technical challenges with patience and

Precision has made her a reliable and impactful contributor in every environment she serves.


Shayla Hammonds is known for her resilience, adaptability, and passion for continuous growth.

With advanced cybersecurity certifications and a strong foundation in business management, she

remains focused on leveraging technology, leadership, and service to create lasting impact in

both professional and community spaces. Her journey reflects a powerful belief that discipline,

service, and innovation can come together to drive meaningful change and build stronger

communities.

Under the leadership of Program Director Minnie, our Break Every Chain students continued building confidence, creativity, and connection through engaging literacy and enrichment activities. Students participated in hands-on learning experiences designed to encourage self-expression, teamwork, and positive peer interaction in a supportive and nurturing environment.


Through our partnership with Thomasboro Academy and the dedicated support of our volunteers, we are proud to see our 2nd grade scholars growing not only in their academic skills but also in confidence, curiosity, and joy for learning.


Minnie’s commitment to creating a safe and encouraging space for our students plays a key role in the program’s impact. Together with our volunteers and community partners, we remain dedicated to walking alongside these young learners as they build strong foundations for lifelong learning and success.

Aiko Mesias brings a strong passion for community service to her role as

Administrative Assistant and Grant Writer at A Brighter Day Outreach.

Joining the organization in February 2024, Aiko holds a Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English, which provides her with a strong foundation in communication, research, and writing. 


Her background equips her to effectively support the organization’s mission through strategic administrative coordination

and grant development. In her role, Aiko manages key administrative operations while researching, tracking, and preparing grant opportunities that help secure funding for programs serving the community. 


Her work supports the sustainability and growth of initiatives that uplift families and strengthen neighborhoods. Known for her proactive approach, and dedication to service, Aiko plays an

important role in advancing the organization’s programs and ensuring operational efficiency.

Gerlie M. Rivera serves as the Bookkeeper and Treasurer of A Brighter Day Outreach, bringing a unique blend of technical expertise, financial management skills, and a deep commitment to community service.


As an Information Technologist, Social Worker, and Junior Accountant, Gerlie supports the organization by ensuring accurate financial oversight, responsible stewardship of funds, and transparent reporting practices that strengthen organizational integrity. 


Her work helps sustain programs that provide educational opportunities, outreach services, and meaningful support to underserved communities.

Driven by a passion for service and accountability, Gerlie plays an essential role in maintaining the financial health of the organization, enabling A Brighter Day Outreach to continue creating positive and lasting impact for the individuals and families it serves."

Ashlyn Cierra Davis is a motivated technology professional and emerging leader with a strong foundation in Computer Information Systems and customer service management. She graduated from North Carolina Central University (NCCU) in 2023, earning her degree in Computer Information Systems with a focus on applying technology to support efficient business operations.


Through her academic experience at NCCU, Ashlyn developed skills in information systems, data management, technology solutions, and business strategy, equipping her to understand how technology can drive organizational success and innovation. In addition to her technical education, Ashlyn has demonstrated strong management and leadership abilities through her experience in customer service management at Food Lion. In this role, she developed expertise in team leadership, customer relations, problem-solving, and operational coordination. 


Ashlyn combines her technical knowledge, management experience, and commitment to service excellence to bring a well-rounded approach to leadership and organizational growth. She is passionate about using both technology and strong leadership skills to improve systems, support teams, and deliver impactful results in professional environments.
